The valley of Paus

Resende
Description

The parish of Paus has a set of tangible and intangible values that enhances it in the territory. Ancient land of potters, who worked the clay very hard on their wheels, shaping utilitarian and decorative pieces, that were then cooked in the “soenga” (a kind of hole in the ground), the last of which was “Master” Joaquim.

A valley of delight at the height of cherry blossoms, which make this place a huge flower garden, or in the Autumn, when the colourful palette of the immense melancholic chestnut invites for a walk.

The Ethnographic and Folk Group, the first in the municipality, founded in 1976, keeps alive the traditions, dances and traditional songs, such as the “Chula de Paus”, and organises the Cherry Blossom Festival.

The Ethnographic Museum of Paus, a small nucleous with an interesting collection, whose ethnographic artefacts were assembled by the people of Paus, features traditional costumes and ornaments, pieces of black pottery made by “Master” Joaquim, as well as fishing implements, utensils used for baking bread, work tools and various musical instruments, such as the traditional fiddle.
