Gemeses Motorized Tour

Esposende
Description

The Cávado here is wide... the waters are calm like a lake, actually.
Before a bridge existed over the river, this was one of the best places of passage, from the earliest times in which medieval pilgrims traveled to Santiago de Compostela.
In the line between Gemeses e Perelhal parishes (Barcelos), there is a place with a fabulous panoramic view over the parish, the middle course of the river in the municipality of Esposende Cávado and its northern coast.
In this hill overlooking the Gemesis, you can see the remains of a mound and various props, the ruins of an old windmill, circular structure, and granite rubble, according to the popular oral tradition, belong to the "Old Chapel on the Mount" and never have been completed, as well as a monolith that marks the division between the two parishes.
