Description
Centre for Environmental Monitoring and Interpretation

The Centre for Environmental Monitoring and Interpretation of Viana do Castelo (CMIA) is a space that is a result of  the restoration of the D. Prior mills, under the Polis Programme. The CMIA provides an essential technical and logistical framework for the activities of the urban ecological park in Viana do Castelo, whose rehabilitation and recovery is one of the most emblematic interventions of the Polis Programme in Viana. This is a natural area, which includes the D. Prior ‘boiler’, fed daily by the S. Vicente stream and the tidal waters. Some of the most striking CMIA activities for the promotion of natural values are: Temporary itinerant exhibitions; Environmental Awareness Projects, in association with a range of institutions; Workshops and training activities; Celebration of thematic days; Promotion of artistic and scenic expression; Motivating cultural activities and recreational facilities; Supporting the operations of educational and community gardens.
