Casal Romano da Bouça de Ouro

Penafiel
Description
The Roman site of Bouça do Ouro is located in Boelhe parish, on the right bank of the river Tamega. This space consists of two Roman farming buildings dating from the first century a.C. that were built on the river slopes. In the period between 1990 and 1994, the Municipal Museum of Penafiel in partnership with the University of Porto requalified this heritage and converted the falllow field into vineyard area, within which the structures of the two buildings are preserved. The archaeological findings in two buildings allowed identification of the main activities of its inhabitants, with particular emphasis on weaving and metallurgy. The collected estate includes traditional dishes, coins, fine ceramics, glass and other goods from different destinations, witnessing the commercial contacts established by its inhabitants. This estate is part of the collection of the Municipal Museum of Penafiel, where it can be properly appreciated.
